Having laid the groundwork and opening all new territory for special effects with Star Wars, Lucas lets "Empire" develope the characters and introduce new ones. Lucas also carries his idea of a 'full length serial' to a greater extent than he does in "Star Wars" by using the 'cliffhanger' of leaving the fate of Han Solo unknown. The Ice Battle is one of my favorite scenes, "Size matters not. Judge me by my size, do you?" and "You must unlearn what you have learned" are 2 of my favorite expressions. And I refused to believe that Luke's dark secret was really true until the "Return of the Jedi" was released. "The Empire Strikes Back" set another standard for science fiction fans everywhere.
