What can I say? I liked these movies for both sentimental and cinematic reasons, but this one was "de bomb" - wish I had a few more starts aroudn for it.<p>

Totally over-rated movie, lots of hype for little gain - sorry, other than a couple cute effects and one line ("go home") it's just not worth it - of course, it was Drew Barrymore's best film :-)

I haven't seen the 2003 version, but the old Japanese versions of Zatoichi were among my favorites (at least some of them). I admit a couple of beers first doesn't hurt in watching these (or even better, rent the DVD, heat up some saki, and have some friends over to watch).

3 stars? Are you people out of your minds - this was an all-time great -- you just have to have seen it first run when it first opened (preferably sitting in or near the front row). The only of the Star Wars movie worth watching 20 or more times...

OK, I admit it, the movie was fairly hoakie and quite contrived in parts. Also stole a bunch from Shogun and other genre pictures (and didn't steal quite enough from the Samurai genre). But the notion of swords vs. guns and the reflections on "bushido" were worth the time.
